"With every photograph posted on social media, the chances dwindle that it will be possible to enduringly refer to an object as “cultic.” All information, both trivial and exacting, goes under in the ballast of data. Given such conditions it is legitimate to ask whether art in its classical format— meaning painting on a canvas, drawing on paper, spatial installations— actually has the capacity to still trigger our interest and whether context-expanding constellations of objects can enrich our imagination. Is it even possible to achieve an immersive art effect with elements such as interwoven sceneries of a place deep in a forest, basketballs that crop up on their own in the composition, and portraits of cactuses and figurative representations that appear without motivation in an anonymous setting? Is there a recipe for how such works can counteract the devaluation of the concept of the image? Can the added value of art even assert itself in the face of the images on the screens of our digital devices? Can the visual arts be an alternative to the restricted perception of images in social media? In the following remarks I will explore Alois Mosbacher’s artistic strategy of taking a unique selection of objects and bringing them together in an image in order to have an impact beyond the frames and limits of canvases, sheets of paper, and sculptures. …"
